About

Mission

This weblog is intended to create a thorough geotechnical database for the use of geotechnical engineers working in industry and academia. The database includes; design and construction tips based on past project experiences, example calculation spreadsheets, example programming codes, and talks/workshops by pioneer geotechnical engineers and professors. The goal is to make resources available in one place (this weblog) for ease of access.

The weblog has two main pages: (i) Geotechnical Topics where interesting topics related to geotechnical engineering and numerical modeling are posted;  (ii) Sample Programming Codes where you can download programming codes that might be useful for the project that you are currently working on. These codes are written in Excel VBA, C++, and OpenSees TCL scripting language.

All posts are open for discussion so feel free to share your thoughts in the comment box under each post.

The contents of this weblog are just for educational purposes and should NOT be considered as any official guidelines or code provisions.

History

I am Amin Rahmani, Ph.D., P.E. and I am currently the sole administrator of this weblog. I am a practicing geotechnical engineer in Southern California, USA. For further information, publications, work experiences, etc please visit my LinkedIn here. I started developing this weblog in January 2018 to ensure that I fully understand the new concepts that I learn everyday in my professional career. In fact, the wisdom quote below from Albert Einstein was the trigger to put together all the information in this blog.

“If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough.”
